Description
Set amidst a neighborhood of an urban city Generation Now is a multi-cultural celebration of young people triumphing in the face of adversity, societal pressures and difficult familial situations. A socially conscious drama about growing up in the contemporary urban environment without parental guidance.
Todays youths experience problems that cut across economic, social, and racial lines unknown to past generations. Millions of children return from school to an empty house. When parents do arrive, they are often tired and preoccupied with their problems. The result? Many teenagers are getting less parenting. Parents find themselves enslaved by poverty, and an overachieving society that they cant make the time to do the things necessary to bond with their children. Many children grow up with few, if any, rules or guidelines to regulate their behavior.
About Sanelle Sibanda
Sanelle Sibanda
Executive Producer/Director
Born in Bulawayo, a major city in Zimbabwe, Sanelle Sibanda was raised by his beloved grandmother in the midst of guerilla warfare. As a young lad, he spent his early life struggling in areas decimated by civil war. He continues to be grateful to his grandmother who protected him throughout the war by hiding him in concealed areas in the cornfields.
Prior emigrating from his native Zimbabwe, Sanelle has lived in South Africa and Texas, where he earned his BS in Comm. Sci. and Dis. from University of Texas in Austin. He then moved to the United Kingdom where he pursued his graduate studies.
After graduating with a M.Sc. Dis. Mgmt. from City University in London, Sanelle moved to San Francisco where he resurrected his skills in producing, directing, acting, and writing. Earlier in his career, Sanelle was involved in theater for more than 20 years where he made significant accomplishments in performances, producing, directing and writing. In 2001, he began writing a screenplay entitled “Victims” where production was stalled due to the high cost of special effects mandatory to the film. Sanelle wrote and produced another feature film called “Danceground,” which was later produced as a short film and has continued producing short films for short film festivals.
He began writing the story and later collaborated with William Perdue to complete the story. (William Perdue features in the movie as Nil.) Besides writing and producing movies, Sanelle assists other producers and directors by providing coaching and mentoring services.
